Benton Middle School
On February 26, 2025, we conducted our visit to Benton Middle School for a PD session led by Ms. Karen Edwards, an ESOL teacher from our Cohort 1. The session focused on the theory and practice of translanguaging, highlighting strategies and practices for integrating students’ full linguistic repertoires into classroom instruction. Teachers engaged in a rich discussion on the benefits and challenges of translanguaging, as well as the role of AI and translation tools in multilingual classrooms. While the concept was new to some, all participants recognized its potential and expressed a willingness to incorporate these practices into their teaching. Overall, this teacher-led PD session was a meaningful and impactful experience, planting a seed for future exploration of strategies to support ELs at Benton Middle School.
